This week the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals struck down Arizona’s law prohibiting abortion at or after 20 weeks of pregnancy – a law that was based on uncontroverted medical evidence that abortion’s risks to maternal health increase dramatically at 20 weeks gestation...But these data did not matter to the three-judge panel in Isaacson. That panel strictly applied the “viability” rule stemming from Roe v. Wade, claiming that no state can prohibit abortion before viability (around 23 to 24 weeks), regardless of whether later-term abortion substantially increases the mother’s risk of death. more...

My wife and I got audited in 2011, with the IRS examining every inch of our adoption the previous year. The process was painful, but we got through it, and our refund may have been adjusted by a few dollars (the amount of the adjustment was so small, I don’t actually remember). Federal judge reinstates Christian college’s lawsuit over HHS mandate

A federal judge has reinstated a Christian college's lawsuit against the Obama administration over the HHS mandate. Geneva College sued the administration over the mandate, which would require the institution to pay for contraception, sterilization, and abortion-inducing drugs for its female employees. U.S. District Judge Joy Flowers Conti said the case may now move forward, as the college must determine what to do about its health care plan in the face of pending regulations that will go into effect on August 1. more...

Time to acknowledge the connection between abortion and later preterm birth

Preterm birth is one of our most challenging public health issues. It is the major cause for infant death in North Carolina and a key reason we rank among the top 10 states in infant mortality. Senate Bill 132 requires that the state’s health curriculum teach preventable causes of preterm birth including induced abortion, smoking, alcohol consumption, illicit drug use and poor prenatal care. Opponents of SB132 say its purpose is to promote a nonscientific, pro-life agenda in public schools. This is a misrepresentation of the indisputable evidence demonstrating that a prior abortion increases a woman’s risk for future preterm birth.

NARAL, a political action group that fights any restrictions on abortion, declared at the convictions that "Justice was served to Kermit Gosnell today and he will pay the price for the atrocities he committed." Unreported abortions cover up sexual crimes

Abortion clinics are still not reporting sexual predators who impregnate underage girls and then take them to receive abortions, reports the pro-life group Life Dynamics. In Everson, Washington, a 31-year-old man has received a prison sentence for impregnating a 14-year-old girl and taking her to a Planned Parenthood clinic for an abortion. Six weeks later the girl informed the police. Life Dynamics conducted an undercover phone investigation of abortion clinics that demonstrated that 91 percent are willing to provide the abortion and not report the crime. Mark Crutcher, founder of Life Dynamics, says this is criminal offense that is widespread and needs to end.
