From the above article:

Shooter

2007 photo of Nidal Malik HasanMajor Nidal Malik Hasan, age 39, was born in Virginia to parents who immigrated from Jordan.[12][13] He served as an army psychiatrist, who had transferred to Fort Hood in July from Washington's Walter Reed Medical Center.[1][2][14][15][16] Prior to being transferred, he had received a poor performance evaluation.[17] He had special training in shooting.[12]

He joined the army immediately after high school, and in exchange the army paid for him to go to college and medical school.[18] Hasan graduated in 1997 from Virginia Tech, where he was a member of ROTC,[19] with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry and in 2003 from the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences with a medical degree (M.D.), and later finished his residency as a psychiatrist.[20][13] In 2009, he completed a fellowship in Disaster and Preventive Psychiatry at the Center for Traumatic Stress.[15]

Hasan had come to the attention of Federal authorities at least six months before the attacks because of internet postings he may have made discussing suicide bombings and other threats.[17] However, it has been unclear if he was truly the author of the posts and no official investigation was opened.[17]

Hasan was promoted from Captain to Major in May 2009.[15] Hasan was about to be deployed to Iraq, on November 28. According to Jeff Sadoski, spokesperson of U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, "Hasan was upset about his deployment".[13] The shooter's cousin, Nader Hasan, a lawyer in Virginia, said that Nidal Hasan turned against the wars after hearing the stories of those who came back from Afghanistan and Iraq.[21] Noel Hamad said, however, that the family did not know he was being sent to Iraq. "He didn't tell us he was going to deploy," she said.[22]

According to his cousin, Nidal Hasan was a practicing Muslim who had become more devout after the deaths of his parents in 1998 and 2001.[18] However, his cousin does not recall him ever expressing any radical or anti-American views.[18]

According to retired Colonel Terry Lee, "He said maybe Muslims should stand up and fight against the aggressor. At first we thought he meant help the armed forces, but apparently that wasn't the case. Other times he would make comments we shouldn't be in the war in the first place."

Here is an article on the phrase used by Hasan as he killed the US soldiers. Rather than "God is Great", I believe the saying is more accurately understood as "Allah is Greatest".

HomeNewsUK NewsCrimeFort Hood shootings: the meaning of 'Allahu Akbar'

The Arabic phrase "Allahu Akbar", shouted by the Fort Hood killer Major Nidal Malik Hasan before he opened fire, is known as the takbir and is used by Muslims to express a wide range of emotions.

Published: 7:19PM GMT 06 Nov 2009

Translated as "God is great", it can be used to express delight and euphoria or as a war cry during battles.

It is also said during each stage of both obligatory prayers, which are supposed to be performed five times a day, and supererogatory prayers, which are said at will.

In the Islamic world, instead of applause, often someone will shout "takbir" and the crowd will respond "Allahu Akbar" in chorus.

It can also be used as a protest. In the aftermath of the 2009 Iranian presidential election many people shouted it for an hour between 10pm and 11pm every day for nine days to show their anger at the result.

The takbir is also included on the flags of many Arabic nations. It is written on the centre of the flag of Iraq, 22 times along the borders of the central white stripe on the flag of Iran, and beneath the Shahadah in the 2004 draft constitution of Afghanistan in white script on the central red background.

Soldiers who witnessed the shooting rampage that killed 13 people at Fort Hood military base in Texas have reported that gunman Major Nidal Malik Hasan shouted "Allahu Akbar" before opening fire.

Islamic groups have prepared for a public backlash after it emerged that Hasan was a Muslim and have expressed fears about inter-faith relations, already strained by the September 11, 2001 attacks, and wars in Iraq and Afghanistan

So what do you say about the other whack jobs that shoot up building? If they are Christian should all Christians then be labled as homicidal whack jobs? This guy snapped and went whacko, it is happening on a daily basis all over the world and people are dying. Religion has nothing to do with it.

I kinda like the irony.

Not that long ago some "pro-lifer" shot a certain late term abortionist, and look at the debacle in the "left wing media" that caused.

The right wingers are doing exactly the same thing here.

I wish that were the case. It's not and because we live in such a PC enviroment the warning signs were ignored for fear of being "insensitive".
The fact is the man was passing out Korans the day before, what do you think would be going on in the media if he was a man passing out Bibles the day before he murdered all those people?
At least understand that the MIS-interpetation and MIS-understanding of one's faith does indeed lead to airlines being hijacked, bombs being strapped to people and exploding in market places, opening fire on crowds...it's all being done in the name of religion and on a daily basis all over the world, just as you said. The sooner society accepts this premise the sooner it can be dealt with and dealt with properly BEFORE it happens.

Saucie you have fantics in every religion, the Book relgions are not exempt. I was reading in a magazine not that long ago that in Israel, some ultra orthodox Jews were assaulting Messianic Jews and vandalizing their churches. A lot of what is going on is the economy, I just think this guy was unstable and Im sure the Army will seek the death penalty as I believe they should in this case. My half brother just did a tour in Iraq and will be shipping to Afganistan after Christmas. Of course I worry about him, but unlike this guy he knew when he signed up that he could be going to war.

And I'm sure like all individuals who do what he did he'll be strapped down and pumped full of poision.

Heaven forbid America gets off its arse and does something about its appalling record of mental health rates, especially in those who do these things.

This Muslim extremist was educated and trained in the mental health field. Who watches the watchers? This guy was trained to help guys so they wouldn't go off their beam. Who is there to make sure he doesn't go off his beam? Or is this Muslim perfectly aware of what he is doing? Muslims do sometimes kill people in the name of Allah.

The guy jumped up shouting "Allah is Greatest" and began unloading some of the most lethal handguns possible into US soldiers.

The website MuslimRevolution said:

Hassan is an officer and gentleman. He did his small part. We wish him a full and speedy recovery.

The website then listed "atrocities" committed by US soldiers.

From JihadWatch:

November 7, 2009

It's getting harder by the minute to say he just "snapped": Fort Hood jihadist linked to 9/11 jihadists

But never fear, the mainstream media will keep looking for a motive! "Fort Hood shooting: Texas army killer linked to September 11 terrorists," by Philip Sherwell and Alex Spillius for the Telegraph, November 7 (thanks to all who sent this in):

Major Nidal Malik Hasan worshipped at a mosque led by a radical imam said to be a "spiritual adviser" to three of the hijackers who attacked America on Sept 11, 2001.
Hasan, the sole suspect in the massacre of 13 fellow US soldiers in Texas, attended the controversial Dar al-Hijrah mosque in Great Falls, Virginia, in 2001 at the same time as two of the September 11 terrorists, The Sunday Telegraph has learnt. His mother's funeral was held there in May that year.

The preacher at the time was Anwar al-Awlaki, an American-born Yemeni scholar who was banned from addressing a meeting in London by video link in August because he is accused of supporting attacks on British troops and backing terrorist organisations.

Hasan's eyes "lit up" when he mentioned his deep respect for al-Awlaki's teachings, according to a fellow Muslim officer at the Fort Hood base in Texas, the scene of Thursday's horrific shooting spree.

As investigators look at Hasan's motives and mindset, his attendance at the mosque could be an important piece of the jigsaw. Al-Awlaki moved to Dar al-Hijrah as imam in January, 2001, from the west coast, and three months later the September 11 hijackers Nawaf al-Hamzi and Hani Hanjour began attending his services. A third hijacker attended his services in California.

Hasan was praying at Dar al-Hijrah at about the same time, and the FBI will now want to investigate whether he met the two terrorists.

Charles Allen, a former under-secretary for intelligence at the Department of Homeland Security, has described al-Awlaki, who now lives in Yemen, as an "al-Qaeda supporter, and former spiritual leader to three of the September 11 hijackers... who targets US Muslims with radical online lectures encouraging terrorist attacks from his new home in Yemen"....

Yes, there are fantics in all religions, but how many strap bombs to themselves, shoot innocent people, fly airplanes into buildings, etc????
I'm not pointing these things out to you to be harsh, I'm only saying we ALL better get out of denial and get rid of this PC enviorment if we actually want to see these atrocities stop.
As long as we "pretend" it's not Islam or Muslims doing these things the longer they will continue. It's for your benefit and all those who have your faith to benefit from as well.

From Jihad Watch:

Fort Hood jihadist's coworkers saw warning signs, but said nothing for fear of seeming bigoted.

So this is what it has come to -- this is the fruit of the long-term efforts by groups such as the Council on American-Islamic Relations and others, to stigmatize and demonize everyone who speaks honestly about the threat of jihad and Islamic supremacism. People are afraid to speak up about what they see, when they know it is wrong.

And all it cost this week was 13 dead and 38 wounded.

Precisely, when was the last time you heard of a Christian or a Jew or a Hindi or a Buddhist or a Sikhs or a Chinese Folkest walk into a crowded public place and open fire? Or blow themselves up?

The only exception here is the ongoing conflict between the British Government and the political and criminal factions in Northern Ireland which has deescalated into an occasional targeted assassination by the criminal elements in Ireland.

Rose colored glasses may be groovy and pretty but not they're not very helpful when it's clarity you seek.

Lieberman Announces Senate Investigation Into Fort Hood Shooting

The Independent Democrat, who chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, said there were 'strong warning signs' that the alleged gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was an 'Islamist extremist.'

Sen. Joe Lieberman announced Sunday that he intends to lead a congressional investigation into the mass shooting at Fort Hood, saying the attack could qualify as a "terrorist act" rooted in Islamic radicalism -- the worst since 9/11.

The Independent Democrat, who chairs the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs, said there were "strong warning signs" that the alleged gunman, Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan, was an "Islamist extremist."

"If that is true, the murder of these 13 people was a terrorist act and, in fact, it was the most destructive terrorist act to be committed on American soil since 9/11," Lieberman told "Fox News Sunday."

The Connecticut senator said authorities "don't know enough" yet, but said his panel would investigate the gunman's motives and "ask whether the Army missed warning signs that should have led them to essentially discharge him."

Lieberman said that if Hasan were showing warning signs, "The U.S. Army has to have zero tolerance. He should have been gone."

In interviews Sunday, Army Chief of Staff Gen. George Casey urged the public not to rush to conclusions about Hasan's motives with an investigation underway. He described reports about early warning signs as "speculation" based on anecdotes.

"I don't want to say that we missed it," he said on NBC's "Meet the Press."

The attacks on Fort Hood in Texas last Thursday left 13 people dead and 29 wounded.

The rampage sparked a debate about whether it could be viewed as an act of terrorism.

The alleged gunman, a Palestinian-American and an Army psychiatrist, reportedly shouted "Allahu akbar! -- Arabic for "God is great!" when he opened fire. He was seriously wounded by police and is being treated in a military hospital.

The military has said he was scheduled to deploy to Afghanistan, and family members suggested he was trying to avoid serving overseas.

That doesn't add up to the prelude to a terrorist attack, said Carl Tobias, a professor of law at University of Richmond who analyzes terrorist investigations across the country.

"Terrorist attacks are undertaken by people who typically ... have some agenda they want to forward politically, and from what I see in the news, this is just a person acting individually because he doesn't want to deploy overseas," he said. "So I just don't see that angle."

But others disagreed.

Lieberman said bystanders' accounts of the attack raise "genuine concerns that this was a terrorist act."

Muhammad was executed for committing Jihad for Allah. He died this evening. Muhammad, like Hasan, killed people because he didn't like the US being in Afghanistan where Muslims were.

In the following link are various drawings/artwork/writings of the Malvo/Muhammad team illustrating how they felt about the infidels. Malvo and Muhammad were snipers who murdered and terrorized as Allah commanded.
