Give them nationalized health care.

Any questions?

I think we really have to find out why health care costs are so high. As much as I disagree with putting the government in charge of something so important and costly, how much more horrible it would be if it starts with where it is now and the bloated costs caused by lawsuits, and god knows what else.

When people are literally dying because they can't afford medical insurance, and our primary concern is money, that says a lot about us as a society...I don't want to pay to support bums who just won't work, but that's not what the health care bill is about. Those people are already covered by medicaid.

The problem we have now is that people who make too much to get medicaid (people who work, but don't make much money) are helping pay for coverage for medicaid recipients, but can't afford coverage for themselves.

Lefty apparently thinks everyone who works for him is a "bum" who wants something for nothing. Maybe he should be a "real man" and explain this to his employees who work every day to make him successful. Maybe he should get rid of all his entry level "under achievers" and see how his bottom line comes out then.

Either way, I can't possibly be the only one who's getting tired of hearing him whine.

There is a freight train coming and most all of you are asleep on the tracks.

America is currently in debt to the tune of $100 trillion dollars. You think I'm exaggerating? Tally up all the future entitlements as projected by the GAO and project them to the end of your life and this number will seem conservative. Medicare parts 1, 2, & 4 are totally unfunded and ridiculously expensive and unsustainable, Social Security is insolvent as the "Social Security Lock Box" was raided a generation ago and is filled with IOUs. Unfunded entitlement programs of enormous size have been shoved though this year and last and there's many more on the drawing board that will be passed soon. Now you guys want your children's children's children strapped with the largest Mother of all entitlement programs of all time to be passed to help out some unfortunate people who can't help themselves. America is broke-broke. Our politicians have servred as our own @sses.

Captain Kirk may be smart by his own standards and the standards of his peers, but all of you people aren't informed as to what is and has been going on in this country for a long time and you have no idea that this speeding freight train is about to impact you in ways you have never considered. This party/dream we call America is just about over.

Affording health care will soon turn out to be gaged by the cost of food and shelter, the most basic health care considerations of all.

Copy and paste this into your archives and get back to me when you smarten up on this subject.

I agree. However that fact alone will serve to undermine your position in the minds of these leftist internet clones. Sorry to mess you up.

Tort reform and interstate insurance competition are two promising avenues that have never been pursued. The Democrat party is in bed with the lawyers and the Republicans are in bed with the Insurance industry. Stalemate, = we get screwed again.

If you really wanted to reduce the cost of health care, you would first either do away with, or greatly over haul the FDA, and AMA. Next, you would repeal the 150 year old law that prohibits the patent of natural cures. There are many medical miracles secreted away in vaults, because it can't be reproduced synthetically in a lab. Next, you would funnel research money into adult stem cell research insted of embryonic . It would reduce the cost of health care dramaticly. Just with conjestive heart failure alone. It cost a million or better for a heart transplant. One can get an injection of their own stem cells, and get a completely healed heart for thousands insted of millions. ASC have also regenerated joint cartlage for arthritis sufferers. Just type in Adult stem cell in the Youtube search engine. Tort reform is a must. Promotion of health clinics with nurse practitioners . this would bring down the cost of over worked emergency rooms. It cost $50 to go to a "TREAT & GO" as apposed to $650 at the emergency room. The last thing we need is a government take over of health care, that will funnel billions into Planned Parenthood. We should be going the other way. More competition, and less regulation.

I'm a working poor person who pays taxes, but I can't afford health insurance. Nor is it provided by my employer, but 3 years ago when I had a heart attack -owing in large part to the fact that I was a heavy smoker and had never been careful about eating transfats- and needed immediate single bypass surgery, the Charleston Area Medical Center, Memorial Division, was pleased to help save my life.

The hospital bill, some $36,000, was "cost shifted" away because my net worth was below $50,000. Yes, I applied for this "charity assistance." I didn't ask WHO actually footed my bill, assuming that it was a combination of those who HAVE health insurance as well as whatever foundation money existed for that purpose.

Specific doctor's fees I could not avoid having to pay, plus the ambulance costs, which were a tad more expensive than normal because I coded and needed to be jump started. That is, I died en route, my cardiologist later told me. No, I didn't see any tunnel, and the only lights I saw were in the ER when I regained consciousness. Those expenses tallied up to around $10,000, which I have since managed to pay off.

I still have no health insurance, but to buy into a plan now, with my "pre-existing condition," would cost more than I earn, so I'm doing what I can to stay healthy, or healthier. My last cigarette 3 years ago was the one that killed me, and I no longer eat artery clogging partially hydrogenated vegetable oil. Check the labels, people!

Fortunately, I have also found a privately funded discounted medical care provider where I am actually eligible for a 25% discount for checkups and dental care, plus free lab work. Beyond that, say, if I needed immediate and life saving surgery, my belief is that I would be treated as I was the first time around, and would not be turned away for lack of a health insurance plan.

As for Rosie O'Donell, here's hoping the twinkies don't kill her, but whatever point you think I was trying to make by posting the link to Sowell's article, allow me to suggest that you take it up with him.

No health care?

Fine-

If a poor woman finds that she's been stuck with an unwanted pregnancy - more likely when she has no access to contraception - which is she going to pick?;

A) $100,000.00 in high-risk prenatal care and another $1,000.000.00 on a possible preemie.

B) $15,000.00 on a caesarian and aftercare.

C) $7,000.00 on a regular delivery.

D) $400.00 on an abortion.

CAMC Health System, Policy for Charity Care

Excerpt:

CAMC has two programs to assist patients in need of financial assistance:

Charity - No payment will be expected from patients who meet the criteria for charity assistance. The main requirements for charity assistance are as follows:

Income at 200% or less of the Federal poverty income and resource guidelines, and,
Insufficient assets to pay for the care (assets of $50,000 or less are excluded), and,
Not eligible for any public programs (such as, Medicaid, Medicare, etc.)
Uninsured Discount - Any patient without third-party coverage will be given a 20% discount from charges. (The 20% discount is greater than any discount given to a non-governmental HMO or insurance company.)

Also, why do people keep providing examples to show that some people without insurance can get care under some circumstances? Doesn't everybody already know this?

"Hey, I got my emergency treatment, therefore all the people who can't are liars, including the 45,000 that died last year because the had no health coverage!"

Are you people phucking retarded?

Some people under some circumstances, eh?

"Charleston Area Medical Center (CAMC) is committed to rendering care to patients regardless of their ability to pay for part or all of essential medical care."

so I suppose that the special "circumstances" related to some people without insurance receiving *FREE*medical care at CAMC would primarily involve their ability to actually get to CAMC, which is borne out by this study that you reference:

Harvard Medical Study Links Lack of Insurance to 45,000 U.S. Deaths a Year

The Harvard study found that people without health insurance had a 40 percent higher risk of death than those with private health insurance - as a result of being unable to obtain necessary medical care. The risk appears to have increased since 1993, when a similar study found the risk of death was 25 percent greater for the uninsured.

The increase in risk, according to the study, is likely to be a result of at least two factors. One is the greater difficulty the uninsured have today in finding care, as public hospitals have closed or cut back on services. The other is improvements in medical care for insured people with treatable chronic conditions like high blood pressure.

Nowhere did I read that these people were denied care; they simply couldn't get to it.

You've clearly ignored my advice to not be an obnoxious prig, newfag.

Do you quote without reading, or simply not understand? Either way, yes, I'd say you're a few cells short of a fully functioning frontal lobe.

In any event, it's very little consolation to the dying, I would imagine, that they might be treated if they could find their way to Charleston (and CMAC decided the care they need is "essential"). Clearly, this commitment to provide care is not unqualified, and even if this were not so, what would happen if people from all over the world began to show up expecting free treatment?

Do the math, Christfag. HUTAS is curable whether you are able to see a doctor or not.

There you go again with your "special" language.

From http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=hutas

/hutass/ n "head up the arse syndrome". 1.A state of extreme turmoil and insular behaviour generaly located after the breakup of an intense personal relationship. 2.Drinking heavily to drown memories of a failed relationship. 3.Generaly walking about with your head up your arse.

You don't trust the government to dispense health care, yet you trust them to run the public school system, the police department, and the fire department?

So, what are you doing currently or plan to do to change that?
And as for the fire department and police department? You're cool with putting them in the government's hands?
Oh, and while we're at ... it's all good for the government to run the military? The judicial system?
