Neil Gorsuch: Break Even or Bust?
Within the pro-life community, there is a lot of speculation today about whether Neil Gorsuch – President Trump’s nominee for the Supreme Court – is really pro-life or not.
My view is that we have no legitimate basis for making that determination until he casts his first vote on an abortion case. That is when we will know what we have. Having said that, I would also point out, even if he turns out to be a bust, we can at least comfort ourselves with the knowledge that we would have gotten far worse from Hillary Clinton.
On the other hand, if Neil Gorsuch ends up being the most staunchly pro-life member of the Court, it is important for us to recognize that we simply broke even. Remember, the man he is replacing – Antonin Scalia – was already the most staunchly pro-life member of the Court.
The fact is, Trump’s most important nomination to the Court was never going to be his first one. That test won’t come until it’s time for him to replace one of the radical pro-aborts – most likely Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
